Meet Mark

Mark Wagoner

Mark Wagoner was appointed to the State Senate in January 2008, replacing former Senator Randy Gardner. Mark represents the 2nd Senate District which includes all of Wood and Erie counties and portions of Ottawa and Lucas counties. Mark previosuly served as State Representative from the 46th district, where voters re-elected him in 2006 with over 60% of the vote. In the Ohio Senate, Mark focuses on the issues that most concern his constituents: economic development and job creation, education, utility costs, and being a watchdog of your dollars. Mark also focuses on policies that encourage people to build strong families.

Mark graduated from Ottawa Hills High School, where he captained the football, ice hockey, and baseball teams. Mark was selected as the outstanding athlete in his senior class and was involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities. Following high school, Mark attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. In addition to being active in the federal government through internships in Congress and the White House, Mark was a member of Georgetown’s NCAA football team. He graduated cum laude with degrees in Government and History. Mark then graduated from The Ohio State University College of Law, which awarded him its Outstanding Recent Alumni Award in 2005. While in law school, Mark served as the President of the Student Bar Association and was an editor for the Ohio State Law Journal.

Mark returned home to Lucas County after law school. For the past ten years, he has been practicing law focusing on litigation with Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP. Ohio SuperLawyers recently recognized Mark as a “Rising Star,” which is award given to the top 2% of attorneys under the age of 40 as selected by other attorneys in Ohio. Mark is a member of the Toledo, Ohio, and American Bar Associations. The Toledo Bar Association has twice awarded Mark with one of its Pro Bono Awards for providing free legal services to those who could not otherwise afford it.

Mark At The White House

Mark has served as the President of the Young Leaders Council and on the Campaign Cabinet of the United Way of Greater Toledo. Mark was an active member of the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees for Mobile Meals of Greater Toledo and the Aspiring Minds of Toledo, a group of young individuals that seek to provide a future vision for Lucas County. Mark is a graduate of Leadership Toledo and the Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce Local Government Academy. He is also a member of the local chambers of commerce in Sylvania, Maumee, and Waterville. The Toledo Business Journal recognized Mark’s commitment to community service by awarding him its “20 Under 40 Leadership Award” in 2004.

Mark and his wife, Merideth, have one son, Mickey. They currently live in Ottawa Hills, where Mark and Merideth have spent the last five years fixing up an old house. They are parishioners of Christ the King Church.
